Study Overview & Purpose

This goal of this survey commissioned by the Casual Games Association (CGA) is to provide reliable market data on the casual games industry. The survey will collect metrics on revenue, costs, budgets, and demographics from companies within the industry. After the data is compiled, the results of the study will be published and a summary report made available to the public. The full data report will be available only to contributing companies.

One of the goals of this data gathering initiative is to make market metrics and statistics accessible to everyone inside the industry. Often the ever important independent content creators are the ones who do not have access to research data. With great content being the key to driving our industry, we need to make sure everyone has the tools to succeed

Information Collected

The information in this study is collected through questions in the survey. Questions will cover relevant issues and metrics within the industry including company profiles, revenue, costs, top titles, and similar information.

Much of the information is intended to make it easier to find information that is currently difficult to find or unavailable. Examples of this include:

  • % of employees working on casual games within company game divisions
  • Geographic distribution of casual games employees
  • Number of casual game downloads at portals
  • Average porting costs of casual games to non-downloaded mediums
  • Division of revenue between casual game platforms

Format of Survey

The survey is online and accessed through a URL. The survey itself is composed of two primary divisions:

  1. Company Profile and Metrics
  2. Top Titles of the Company

The second, Top Titles of the Company, will be less extensive and completed more frequently (on a monthly basis) as a tracking survey to gauge the industry environment.

Company Profile and Metrics will request information about both basic company operations and in-depth questions regarding casual gaming divisions.

Information Security

Due to the nature of the information collected, information security is given the highest priority in the design and operation of this survey. Collected data will be storied on secured servers and databases. The surveys themselves are password protected.

To prevent potential conflicts of interest, CGA and CGA executives will not have direct access to the raw data. Pearl Research will process collected information, providing CGA with only statistics drawn from the data to ensure the confidentiality of the data from individual reporting companies.
